Dear Director Koenings:

This letter is to express my appreciation and compliments to your staff for the efforts they have made and the successes achieved in the year 2000. It was wonderful to have a sockeye opening in Lake Washington and a chinook opening in Elliott Bay.

You should be especially proud of the sockeye web site that was prepared by Jim Ames. The past sockeye openings in Lake Washington, such as 1988 and 1996, were very enjoyable but having the web site for the 2000 season made it particularly interesting. The web site has historical information about sockeye that many knowledgeable fisherman and persons interested in fisheries had not previously known. It was especially exciting to watch the growth of the run in the daily counts conducted at the Ballard Locks.

We also appreciate your staff's responsiveness and timely reporting of information through the media by Dick Geist.

Very truly yours,

Douglas Hofmann
