Subject: Been diving

Upon occaision, I have been critical of some of your closures because of what I was seeing while diving. This time, however, I have to agree. I was diving in area 8-2 this past weekend and where I usually see a couple hundred crab (Rock and Dungeness), I saw fewer than 10. Oddly enough, no fish either. It seems that everything has left the area. there is one pleasant exception though. Below 100 feet, I was seeing small spot shrimp during the day. This is VERY UNUSUAL. Normally we only see them long after dark. I can only assume that we are going to have a bumper crop this year.

I hope you keep the crab season closed. If what I saw was any indication, they need the pressure off so the stocks can rebuild. How about a two or three year ban on crabbing? (I mean everyone, including Native Americans and the commercial guys.)
