Subject: License Sales

Demand for licenses was light due to the time of year. After April 1 that will change significantly. We had a fairly large crowd here but judging from the sales of clam digging equipment, most of the group was already set to go.

One of my cashiers kept track of the number of customers who asked for a license after 5:30 pm on Saturday. That number was 13. Four were angry, one acted as if she were ready to cry, and the remainder announced that they were digging anyway. The schedule for future license operations should probably be modified to accommodate the public.

The members of the area's business community are very appreciative of your participation in resolving the issues. It is recognized that there won't be any permanent solutions until the legislature's decisions are enacted, so many here have expressed a desire to aid WDFW in fulfilling the current needs of the public.

The Ocean Park Area Chamber of Commerce meets on Thursday. As I am typically the one to report on the clam digging topics, I would gladly convey any messages you want sent to the group.
