Larch Mountain Salamander

On Federal lands such as National Forests, this is one of a small group of species that are subject to special provisions for surveys and management. Survey methods have been drafted and are being applied to areas where timber sales, trails, and other activities are being planned.

The Larch Mountain salamander is also receiving special treatment in Habitat Conservation Plans that apply to lands in the south Cascades of Washington. Our knowledge of the geographic range of this species is steadily improving, but much remains to be learned about its response to a variety of habitat changes, especially timber harvest and road construction.
