New Rules Are In Effect for Hunters Reporting

Deer, elk, black bear and turkeyhunters who do not report harvest by January 31, 2006 willbe required to pay $10 extra fortheir 2006 hunting licenses. Thechange was passed by the 2005Legislature and enacted by theFish and Wildlife commissionlast August. Reporting rates haddeclined to less than 65 percentby the deadline and this fine isdesigned to increase reportingrates. Wildlife managers rely on accurate harvest information fordeveloping permit levels and todetermine the impacts of huntingseason changes. Successfulhunterswho report within 10days of harvest and un-successfulhunters who report by January10 will be entered into a drawingfor nine special permit hunts for 2006.
