with Wildlife Research

The Wildlife Science Division's primary responsibilities are to conduct scientific investigations of priority wildlife species and habitats in Washington, provide statistical analysis and support, manage wildlife heritage and population data, and provide GIS analysis and support to the Wildlife Program. In addition we provide expertise, technical information and quantitative analysis to other programs both inside and outside the Agency. The Division produces progress and final reports, publications in peer reviewed literature, presents seminars and workshop of significant results, and writes management recommendations for species studied.

We maintain close working relationships with the scientific community outside of the agency and provide direct support to several university graduate student programs in the field of wildlife management. Funding for the Division comes from several sources: including the sale of personalized license plates and hunting licenses, grants from U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, National Marine Fisheries Service, and other agencies and granting institutions.

Recent developments in Internet technology (especially WorldWideWeb applications) have created an environment for unparalleled ability to share wildlife information to the public. Wildlife research and data management efforts in Washington are directed at improving our knowledge and understanding of wildlife ecological relationships. One of most important goals of the Wildlife Science Division is to share information with others in the scientific community and also the general public. We have created this website in order to improve our ability to communicate wildlife research and data management information to the public.
