Businesses and the Vehicle Use Permit Dear Friend of Fish and Wildlife: Whether or not your customers hunt or fish, if they do not know about Department lands they are missing recreation opportunities. If they use Department lands there is an important Washington license change in 2001 that affects them. The Department manages about 800,000 acres of wildlife habitat and over 600 water access sites throughout Washington (see site lists). These lands provide a large share of Washington's outdoor recreation opportunities. For example, the Department owns and maintains over 500 boat launching sites in the state. While acquisition has been robust, operation and maintenance has lagged. These sites are now operating at 34 percent of the necessary maintenance level. If your business depends on a quality infrastructure supporting outdoor recreation access, that need is at risk. We are optimistic that new revenue from the sale of Vehicle Use Permits can begin addressing the maintenance need. Your help in letting recreation customers know about the license change is greatly appreciated. If you have questions please give the project manager a call at (360) 902-2375 or e-mail at sherlses@dfw.wa.gov. Thanks for your help. |
